Animal Welfare (Furness) strives to deliver the utmost care for every cat that is brought through our rescue cattery door. The recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of cats that are; extremely elderly, experiencing long term illnesses, experiencing long term injury issues, or those that have been abandoned which has had a detrimental effect on their mental wellbeing.

Each and every one of these cats are given the best possible chance to receive the care, medication and time they need to ensure their lives are at the best possible quality. However, unfortunately some of these cats require medication for the rest of their lives which is costly, or have behavioural issues which we hope with time and the right environment will continue to improve, or we know that even though we have saved and improved their lives and they are happy, they don’t have many years, or in some cases months left to be with us. These cats can sometimes become the unadoptable.

But each of these cats still deserves to live in a loving home. We understand that it can be difficult in the current climate to adopt animals with additional needs and costs, so we have developed our Cat Fostering Project.

Colin can be very vocal bless him he is now very happy in his foster home and is continuing to thrive. Colin needs medication to help manage his arthritis, we rely hugely on the kind public to help with these costs.

Tango

Tango,18 years old who came to us under unfortunate circumstances of no longer being able to stay with their owner.
This boy have in recent years suffered from chronic cat flu, resulting in poor Tango requiring monthly medication to keep his flu symptoms from flaring up. The stress of losing their home with their owners had a detrimental effect on him, so our foster home aim is to provide a loving, stress free environment, with an understanding that runny noses and sneezes will come about from time to time and a few trips to the vet for treatment.

Tiger

Foster Home Needed

Say ‘hi’ to Tiger, our gorgeous 15 year old ginger girl, who loves attention and the peace and quiet.
Tiger came to us with persistent urinary tract infections, which can become worse and more frequent with stress. She also has a tendency for rather grubby ears! So Tiger now receives monthly injections to keep her UTIs in check and some good quality ear cleaner.
To help Tiger we knew a loving, quiet, stress free home was required asap, where it would be understood that she may have accidents if her UTI flares up and she would need regular ear cleans to keep her ears from becoming infected.

This is our loving 14 year old boy, Bobby. This handsome chap has unfortunately developed a number of life limiting conditions that have affected his chances of finding a forever home. On arrival at our rescue cattery it was discovered that Bobby has hyperthyroidism, so requires daily medication to keep his thyroid levels balanced. After spending some time with us, we noticed Bobby was expressing signs of pain. On further investigation he was diagnosed with spondylosis of the spine, another condition requiring daily medication and frequent veterinary checks. It was also discovered that Bobby has a renal cyst, which at present, is not causing any issues, but its size and his renal function must be monitored to ensure any changes are picked up quickly and any treatments given as soon as possible.
